Female Physicians

The number of practicing female physicians from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Wefare's Survey of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists. The number of female physicians per 100 thousand female population is compared. While the national average number of male physicians per 100 thousand male population is 350, the national average number of female physicians per 100 thousand female population is 69, indicating that the number of female physicians is still small.

The distribution seems to slightly differ from the high-west low-east distribution seen in the number of Practicing Physicians.

Firstly, although the number of male physicians is high in Kyushu, there are many prefectures in Kyushu in which the number of female physicians falls below the national average. On the other hand, Tokyo stands out with 126 female physicans per 100 thousand female population. This is 3.3 times that of Aomori, ranked last, with only 38 female physicians per 100 thousand female population. It is also 1.2 times that of Kyoto, ranked second (101).

Kanagawa, Chiba, Ibaraki and Saitama which were the bottom four prefectures in the number of male physicians are ranked higher in the number of female physicians. On the other hand, there are few female physicians in the Tohoku area, indicating that female physicians seem to avoid rural areas and to gather around Tokyo.
