Of Japanese deaths due to cancer, bowel cancer is the third greatest type of cancer after lung cancer and stomach cancer. Approximately 40,000 people have died of bowel cancer in 2006. Because in the original data bowel cancer was separated into the colon and the rectosigmoid junction, the total has been compared here.

Like stomach cancer, cocentration is high in the Tohoku area. The standard scores are especially high in Akita and Aomori, indicating that there are many bowel cancer patients in these areas. Risk factors for bowel cancer include high-salt diets, insufficient fiber, smoking and alcohol. Thus prefectures in the Tohoku area, with high salt consumption, are ranked high.

Like stomach cancer, the number of bowel cancer is also significantly small in Okinawa. Similar distribution can be seen in stomach cancer and bowel cancer because both stomach cancer and bowel cancer are cancer in the digestive system.
