Although old age is not a disease, the number of people dying of old age has been examined.

According to Wikipedia,
Death due to old age refers to when the cause of death is not external injury or disease, but natural causes. Biologically and medically, this is due to decrease in the functions of the cells and tissues that form an individual as he or she grows old, and constant sustention of life becomes impossible. Ordinarily, it is treated differently from deaths due to diseases.

Due to the advances in medical technology in recent years, the number of deaths due to old age is decreasing. This is because although deaths due to failure in metabolic, immune and restorative capacity should fundamentally be considered natural deaths, in many cases they are diagnostically treated as deaths due to diseases such as pneumonia, multiple organ failure and cerebral strokes.

The distribution map shows that Nagano is ranked first. Nagano is the prefecture with the longest average life expectancy of men, and it can be said that there are many men who live long lives and die of old age.

On the other hand, in other prefectures ranked high in average life expectancy such as Shiga, Kanagawa, Fukui and Tokyo, the rates of deaths due to old age are low. Although there seems to be no association between deaths due to old age and average life expectancy, because there is no clear line distinguishing natural deaths from deaths due to diseases, the standard for determining deaths due to old age may differ depending on the medical environments of each prefecture.
