Brazilian Residents in Japan

In view of the trend from 1991 onwards, the number of Brazilian residents increased up until around 2005, but has recently hit the peak.

The greatest number of Brazilian residents in Japan per 100,000 population is 1,363 in Shizuoka, with 1 Brazilian resident in approximately every 100 persons. Shizuoka is followed by Mie (1,167), Aichi (1,101), Shiga (1,046) and Gifu (977). It seems that many Brazilian residents work in automobile-related lines where there are many automobile-related factories, such as in Aichi.

Gunma with Oizumi City in which 10% of the residents are Brazilians, norther Kanto areas, Nagano and Yamanashi are also ranked high.

Most Brazilian residents live around Aichi or in the northern Kanto area, and there is a significant difference from other areas. Many Brazilians live in areas where there are many manufacturing industry workers and there is a strong connection to the manufacturing industry. Compared to Chinese Residents in Japan who, like Brazilians, are also referred to as new-comers and who are engaged in the service industry in urban areas besides the manufacturing industry, this can be said to be characteristic of Brazilian residents.
