Fire death rate ranking based on the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's vital statistics. The average number of fire deaths for the ten year period from 1998 to 2007 has been compared in order to average the differences in rates for each year.

The past ten years, an average of 1,400 people have died due to fire. This is approximately 13% of auto accident deaths (11,200 people), and the number of fire deaths per 100 thousand population is 1.136 deaths.

The prefecture with the greatest number of fire deaths per 100 thousand population is Aomori, with 2.488 deaths. This is 2.2 times the national average, and the deviation, 82, is also high. Other prefectures in the Tohoku Area are also ranked high: Fukushima (#3), Akita (#4), Iwate (#8), Yamagata (#11). This is believed to be due to fires related to heating devices in the wintertime. This can be seen from the point that Nagano, with severe winter seasons, is also ranked #10.

The correlative ranking shows that it is positively correlated with the number of Senior Citizens. This can be said to be due to many elderly people not being able to escape from fires, and the number of senior citizens and the number of deaths from fire can be said to be related to each other.
