Density of Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. The density of KFC restaurants is high in the Kyushu-Okinawa area, Kansai area, Kanto area and Hokkaido. The density is particularly high in Okinawa.

According to Wikipedia, "the amount of KFC chicken consumption per capita by prefecture is extremely high in Okinawa. This is believed to be due to the history of the U.S. occupation of Okinawa, the presence of military bases thereafter and American customers from such bases (there are no KFC restaurants inside the military bases). In addition, unlike other prefectures, KFC chickens are used in unique ways, such as for gifts and wedding gifts. However, President Watanabe (as of May 2006) has stated in a TV program that the company does not know why KFC chickens began being used in such ways."

With respect to Oita which is ranked in the middle at #29 with deviation 45.5, according to Wikipedia, "By contrast, there are hardly any KFC restaurants in the norther part of Oita (Nakatsu, Usa, Bugo Takada, Kunisaki, Kitsuki, etc.) and thus low consumption. This can be said to be due to the food culture in Oita in which a distinct type of "Nakatsu-style" fried chicken is eaten in this area. There are many restaurants serving this "Nakatsu-style" fried chicken that has been marinated in rich garlic seasoning, and due to the high competition between these restaurants, there is no room for KFC to compete against these restaurants especially in this area, in terms of price and preference. Further, in Oita, there is a local dish called "tori-ten" which is deep-fried chicken served with Japanese lime and ponzu sauce. This dish is extremely popular and used in box lunches as well. In the past, there was a KFC restaurant in Nakatsu which was forced to close due to poor performance. However, later in 2007, KFC opened the YouMe Town Nakatsu branch."
